A brave ATS officer and a disabled grandmaster face a mysterious and dangerous opponent.
The Indian audiences specially I have been waiting for a Hindi movie under 2 hours with a taut riveting screenplay, competent direction and some good acting. The ultimate test of a good movie lies in the number of times you look away from the screen or take a loo break. This movie had me hooked for the first 45 minutes and the next part also was equally engaging. In the first 10 minutes our hero Farhan Akhtar an ATS officer gets married to Aditi Rao Hydri and they have a daughter. When she grows up to be 5 or so,she dies accidentally in an encounter involving her father and a dreaded terrorist. This causes a rift between Farhan and wife Aditi who holds him responsible for her daughter's death. A highly disturbed Farhan is kept out of official raids but out of vengeance he gets invoved, is suspended and then meets Panditji Amitabh Bacchan who has a similar agenda. A number of dramatic scenes follow leading to the climax.
It is to the credit of the director Bijoy Nambiar and writer Vidhu Chopra that the story telling is racy and tense throughout without a dull moment. Some good photography and editing helps to maintain the tempo and the suspense generated sets the mood. A few gaps have seeped in and the film sags in a few places in the second half. Overall the audience is kept interested and that matters. Director Bijoy Nambiar has earlier shown great potential and he impresses with an intelligent use of resources available with him. Farhan and big B turn in excellent performances. While Farhan has a serious role, big B lightens the atmosphere with some signature drunkard scenes reminiscent of his Sharabi role. Neil Nitin Mukesh gives a superb cameo. Aditi Rao Hydri as the wife has done well too. All credit to the cinematographer and editor for some really good work.
